A housebound woman spies on her neighbours, and finds herself tangled up in another family’s problems and questioning her own competence.
This is a much-hyped book, and for me, while it was a good read, I don’t think it really lived up to the hype. It’s slow to start, but once I finally got into the story I found myself reading quickly to find out what happens. I suppose that’s the ultimate test for a thriller such as this, but for me I think it just took too long to get going. It’s well written, there’s no doubt about that, but I felt in places it was trying to be more than it was, which bogged the story down. But it’ll probably get made into a movie and be adored by millions, so what would I know!
